God’s Word:  Proverbs 1:10-19

God’s Message to Me:

The teachings and example of the parents, follow the child through life.  The closer these two are linked, the stronger will be the child’s inclination to follow the example.  A parent who tells a child what to do but ignores their own advice may have well saved their breath in talking.  But a parent who sets the example of right living and instructs the child to join them in this life—will reap far greater results.

There will always be selfish people with no care about others.  These verses warn of the dangers of this way of life.  Parents can plead with their children about avoiding these dangers, until they are blue in the face, but unless the parent’s example shows a better way to live, the child will ignore the advice.

My best advice—take your job of parenting very seriously.  Set the example of caring for others—not taking advantage of them.  Get your children involved in this endeavor so they can experience the endorphins of pleasure realized in doing good for others.  Be lavish with praise and stingy with criticism in directing your child.  In doing so you are planting the good seeds of living for others rather than selfishly grabbing all they can get for themselves.

God’s Question for Me:  Does your example of living reinforce or deny the very words you say?

God’s Promise to Me:  No matter what kind of parenting you received, I am your heavenly Father and invite you to come back home to me.

My Song to God:     I have decided to follow Jesus

I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
Though I may wonder, I still will follow;
Though I may wonder, I still will follow;
Though I may wonder, I still will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.
